Status Report on R18+

98.2%. That’s how many of the 59,678 submissions to the Discussion Paper were Pro 18+.

With Delia Lawrie, AG from the Northern Territory, unable to attend the recent Attorney Generals meeting evidently there was no movement in regards to R18+ on their end. However our beloved government has released the Status Report on the recent R18+ Discussion Paper Submissions. 58,589 submissions were for the introduction of the R18+ rating, with only 1,089 against it.

  • 59% of submissions came from EB Games, 27% from Grow Up Australia, with the next biggest being just through email with 12%.

In regards to those who were Pro 18+

  • The majority age groups were 18-24 (43.3%) and 25-34 (34%).
  • 91% were Male.

In regards to whose who were Against 18+

  • Submissions per Age Group were fairly even across the board, with each range sitting between 10-20%.
  • 62% were Male, 38% Female.

When given the opportunity to give their own comment the following were a commonality across submissions

  • “A lack of an R18+ classification for computer games restricts civil liberties of adult gamers” (said on 2325 submissions)
  • “What content children access is a parent/guardian responsibility” (said on 2020 submissions)
